10th Anniversary – Quinta da Lomba Group

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other with the goal of solving their common problem and helping others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. AA charges no admission fees or dues – we are wholly self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, political institution or organization, does not engage in any controversy, does not endorse or oppose any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

In this spirit, the group “Alegria em Recuperação” (Joy in Recovery), which meets on Mondays and Thursdays at 9 pm at the Parish of St. Andrew (Quinta da Lomba) on Rua Dom Luís Ataíde, is pleased to invite Your Excellency to participate in an open meeting to mark its 10th anniversary, to be held on February 5, 2026, starting at 9 pm and ending at 10:30 pm, in the room where the group holds its meetings (near the Padre Azevedo Parish Hall).

The purpose of this meeting is to introduce the community to the work carried out by AA. After the meeting, there will be a small gathering at the same location, with coffee and tea, providing an informal moment of sharing and connection.

We will have the presence of Dr. Andreia Mendonça, a psychologist from UTITA, specializing in Integrative Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, who will address the medical perspective on alcoholism. We will also have testimonies from two members of Alcoholics Anonymous – one male and one female – who will share their recovery experiences, as well as a representative from the Al-Anon community, composed of family members and friends of alcoholics, who will give us their personal testimony.
