Alcoholics Anonymous works through meetings that take place in groups in various locations. These groups can be found under "Meetings" in the main options on this site.
Meetings can be closed (only for people who want to solve their drinking problem) or open (anyone can join).
If you wish, you can call 217 162 969, which is a helpline. Someone will answer your call and, if you wish, your contact details will be passed to someone who, in time, will talk to you and can accompany you to an initial meeting.
This method has proven more comfortable for many people, as it allows them to arrive accompanied at their first meeting. However, you can simply show up at any of the meetings listed on this site.
Meetings usually ask if the newcomer has a problem with alcohol and if this is their first A.A. meeting. If this is the case, you are very welcome and the whole group will focus on giving you the most useful information to help you start to solve the situation. There's no need to give your full name, fill in any forms or say anything else. You can simply listen. If you have any doubts, you can go to as many meetings as you like without having to give reasons or make any commitments. You are free to decide where and when to go. The members present at the meetings will be delighted if they can be useful to you. Why postpone? The time is now, the day is today, the solution is possible. There are many people who have had problems with alcohol and who now have full and happy lives. You can be one of them.
