Since then, the message of hope for recovery from alcoholism has spread, currently reaching more than 180 countries and helping around two million alcoholics, in more than 120,000 groups that meet regularly.
In Portugal, Alcoholics Anonymous has 99 active groups. As well as meetings in Portuguese, there are also meetings in English, German and Russian, spread across the mainland and the Autonomous Regions, bringing a message of hope to the alcoholic who still suffers.
