The magic of AA
A little over 24 hours ago, a guiding star—just for today—sought to lead me to the sobriety that I had been unsuccessfully trying to achieve on my own, opening one of the many doors of the meeting rooms in this welcoming home that is Alcoholics Anonymous.
Since then, I have occupied this room without reservation, coming to admire this Community founded on goodwill, kindness, and the dedication that people show in sharing their experience. They are like messengers of Good News, passing on to others their reality of recovery, which can also be mine, if I work for it!
My attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings has been exclusively online, and it has been wonderful.
When the opportunity arose for the Christmas lunch organized by Area 8 (formerly Area 13) on December 7th in Lisbon, I eagerly awaited the moment. And it was a magical moment, embracing and spending time with so many companions whose words have brought new meaning to my life! The true Christmas spirit of love, unity, and renewal permeated that pleasant space, around tables laden with delicious treats!
To conclude this day, a visit to the General Service Office of Alcoholics Anonymous. A modest space, but full of history, managed with the aforementioned goodwill, dedication, and work of fellow members who follow a common purpose. Necessary decisions for the Community are discussed and made there. Our magazine, *Partilhar*, is reviewed and printed there, and it houses the other precious AA literature that arrives at our homes daily!
May there be good companions who dedicate their time and experience to helping others, and may this keep them happy! It makes me think that it doesn't take much to accomplish great things, and AA is an example of that!
A true Christmas miracle is happening to me too, just for today!
